Automata’, ‘Youropa’, ‘Wizorb’, and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for October 6th, 2022. We have a bunch of new releases to check out today, with the most well-known of them being NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition. Lesser-known but worth paying attention to are Youropa, Wizorb, and Falling Out. There’s also a lot of very dubious games, for those who love them. We wrap things up with a look at the latest sales and expiring discounts for the day. Let’s fly!

New Releases

NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition ($39.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

I don’t know if anyone said it couldn’t be done, but if they did, they were wrong. This is a fantastic port of the highly-acclaimed action-RPG from Yoko Taro, Platinum Games, and Square Enix. If you have somehow managed to avoid playing this up until now, tie on your bib and jump in.

Youropa ($14.99)

Ho, this is an interesting one. It’s a 3D puzzle-platformer that leans hard into a gravity-defying gimmick that immediately calls to mind that one game. You know the one. The one with the walking on walls and ceilings and stuff. As you explore the world, you’ll solve puzzles, unlock new abilities, find secrets, and battle enemies. It has a lot of rough edges but there’s plenty of heart to match. If you enjoyed the likes of Supraland, this might be of interest to you. I’ll have a review of it soon if you need more details.

Wizorb ($4.99)

Oh hey, I know this one. And perhaps many of you do, too. One of the earlier games from the now-famous Tribute Games (they made that Shredder’s Revenge game the kids are all on about), Wizorb is a brick breaker with some cool twists. You’re bouncing an orb and trying to break things, but you can also make use of an assortment of magic spells and charms to help you. There are boss battles, multiple endings, the whole nine yards. A great way to spend a fiver today if that’s all you’ve got for a game.

Josh Journey: Darkness Totems ($13.99)

You know when a QUByte game goes north of the ten-dollar mark, it really means business. This is a beat-em-up for up to four players via local multiplayer. There are four different heroes to use, each with their own abilities. If you’re playing with less than a full plate, you can swap between the heroes as you like. I haven’t had a chance to play this yet, but it certainly looks like it has a bit more oomph to it than the usual release from this publisher. I hope it plays well, too.

Falling Out ($14.99)

This is a clever-looking one. It’s a roguelite platformer that seems to take some cues from the likes of Spelunky, but with one added twist. You have two different characters with their own distinct abilities, and you’ll need to make use of both of them as you play. You can play alone or with another player in local multiplayer. Okay, these are two very familiar concepts, but you don’t often see them mashed together. I haven’t had a chance to play this yet, but I’ve definitely got my eye on it.

Cyjin: The Cyborg Ninja ($9.99)

A precision platformer where every move is a dash, Cyjin sees you playing as a cyborg ninja who has to make his way through treacherous traps and deadly enemies on a quest for revenge. This game was pretty fun on PC, but I do wonder how the developers have adapted the controls. It made heavy use of mouse controls to guide your ninja’s dashes, and I don’t know if just mapping that to a stick and buttons would result in a similar experience. I guess we’ll know soon!

Arcade Archives Darius ($7.99)

This was one of the early Arcade Archives releases on the PlayStation 4, but the Switch missed out on it until now. As such, it’s perhaps not quite as feature-rich as some of the more modern releases in the line. Anyway, this includes three different versions of the original Darius arcade game: Old, New, and Extra. You might already own this as part of the Darius Cozmic Collection. I prefer M2’s take from that set, but this isn’t a bad version of the game either. If you only want this first game it’s certainly cheaper to get it this way. Unless I miss my guess, this leaves us with just three Arcade Archives releases that haven’t hit Switch: Ark Area, Bubble Bobble, and Wonder Boy. The last seems very unlikely to ever happen and the first almost inevitable, so I’ll cross my fingers for Bubble Bobble to follow this.

Super Jagger Bomb ($9.99)

Well, that’s just a complete rip-off of Tecmo’s Mighty Bomb Jack. Down to the character design and specific mechanics. It’s a little disappointing to see this kind of thing from eastasiasoft. For whatever faults it has as a publisher, I thought it was better than this.

Maze Blaze ($9.99)

This is a roguelite action game where you navigate through procedurally-generated mazes and blast whatever gets in your way. You can play alone or pull in a friend via local multiplayer for some back-up. You’ll unlock more weapons and abilities as you go. Look, we all know how this kind of thing goes by now. This is one of those games. If you need one, here it is.

CosmoPlayerZ ($10.99)

This is a roguelite action game where you navigate through the dungeons and blast whatever gets in your way. You can get new outfits that will give your character new skills, and that’s pretty much the gimmick. You’ll unlock new skills and attacks as you go. Look, we all know how this kind of thing goes by now. This is one of those games. If you need one, here it is.

Isekai Bride Hunting – Meir Edition ($7.99)

A split-off component of the visual novel Isekai Bride Hunting, this time focusing on the route with the catgirl named Meir. More than a little lewd, as you might expect from a premise that involves a businessman trying to pick up women from a fantasy world. If you already own the main Isekai Bride Hunting game, you’ve got everything included in this release.

Bunker Life ($14.99)

A survival game with some card game elements, as near as I can tell. It’s from TROOOZE, so I wouldn’t expect it to exude quality from its pores. The exact mechanics are a bit mysterious and the eShop description isn’t very helpful. I’m not going to drop the money to figure it out, but if one of you does please leave a comment below to fill the rest of us in.

Brick Breaker Ball Shooter ($9.99)

Megame, this is a terrible day to be releasing a generic-butt brick breaker for a far higher price than it merits. Buy Wizorb instead and spend the extra fiver you just saved on buying some delicious Snickers bars to munch on while you play a far better game than this.

memory – The Original Matching Game from Ravensburger ($19.99)

This is exactly what it looks like: a twenty-dollar memory match game. You know, the game where you flip over two cards trying to find pairs? The publisher, TREVA, has gone and secured some credible branding, and it has certainly tried to make this a fancy take with lots of card sets and some variants, but at the end of the day this is a game you can play with a cheap pack of cards.

Rush Hour Deluxe – The Ultimate Traffic Jam Game! ($19.99)

And here’s another one TREVA licensed from Ravensburger. It’s another one of those games where you have slide pieces to clear a path to the exit for one specific other piece. It has sixty puzzles to solve, and can be played with up to four players in local multiplayer. I suppose I give it some credit for official branding, but you can find games almost exactly like this with far more puzzles at a far lower price on the eShop if you’re hankering for one.

Jewel Diamonds ($2.99)

A pretty straightforward knock-off of Bejeweled. Maybe you’re looking for that today.

Billiard: Classic 8 Ball Pool ($9.99)

Megame also has this generic-butt billiards game for us today. One or two players, multiple difficulty levels for the CPU opponent. Given how many games like this of comparable quality are available for less than half the price of this, I can’t imagine who is going to buy this.

Poker World: Casino Game ($9.99)

Yeah, this looks like a T-Bull effort alright. It’s a generic-butt Texas Hold’em Poker game. Single-player only. Just like with Megame’s junky billiards game, I’m reasonably sure you can find a poker game of comparable quality for a much lower price elsewhere on the eShop.

Airport Flight Administrator Simulator & Air Traffic – Sky Airplane Sim Plane Games ($7.99)

Another crap game from the crappy Midnight Works. Handheld mode only because they can’t be bothered to add button controls to this mobile port. You get several minigames that are at times dubiously connected to the airport theme. Put it in the bin where it belongs.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

A small, but not bad, batch of games as we approach the end of this week. There will surely be a lot more tomorrow, but for now there are good deals on things like Moonlighter and Children of Morta to consider. Some decent stuff in the outbox, too. Make sure to grab Cuphead if you haven’t already. It isn’t on sale all that often.
